As stated in the quote above he obviously was completely against Communism. Franco's strong anti-Communism made him popular with the United States and in 1950 Spain was allowed to join the United Nations. In 1953 Franco signed an agreement that let the United States establish four air and naval bases in Spain. Francisco Franco wanted no one getting even close to having power like he did, therefore he expelled the original leading members of both the Carlists and the Falangists (Spanish political parties) to make sure he would keep his political future safe. He was power hungry. His preferable ruling style was being in strong power and strong dictatorship. He was also a strong monarchist.
